1.Welcome to PrestoPe

PrestoPe is your restaurant's complete command centre. Billing, kitchen tickets (KOT), table management, GST bills, inventory, staff accounts, customer credit (khata), and daily reports — everything runs from one screen, in any web browser.

What you need

Good to know: your data lives safely in the cloud and is backed up every night automatically. If your computer stops working, nothing is lost — log in from any other device and continue billing.

2.Your first login

  1. Open your browser and go to your PrestoPe web address (for example pos.prestope.com).
  2. Click Log in, enter the username and temporary password given to you.
  3. PrestoPe will immediately ask you to set your own new password. Choose something only you know — this is the owner account, and it can see everything, including money reports.
  4. You land on the Order Dashboard — the home screen where the day's orders appear.
Important: never share your owner password with staff. Staff get their own logins with limited access (see the next section). If a staff member leaves, you can switch off their account in seconds.

3.Who logs in as what — roles

Every person in your restaurant gets their own username with exactly the access their job needs:

RoleWho it's forWhat they can do
OWNERYou (and a trusted manager, if you wish) Everything — billing, menu, prices, staff, settings, all money reports, inventory.
CASHIERThe billing counter person Take orders, print KOTs and bills, settle payments. Cannot change prices, menu, or see business reports.
KITCHENThe kitchen Sees incoming KOTs on the kitchen screen and marks food as ready. Nothing else.
WAITERServing staff Take orders at the table. No access to payments, reports or settings.
Tip: resist the temptation to let everyone use the owner login "because it's easier." Separate logins mean the system records who billed, voided, or settled every order — that record has ended many arguments and caught many mistakes.

4.Setting up from scratch — the 30-minute checklist

Do these once, in this order, and your restaurant is fully operational:

Step 1 — Business details & GST (Settings)

  1. Open Settings from the menu (☰).
  2. Under Print / Receipt, enter your restaurant's name, address, phone, and GSTIN exactly as they should appear on printed bills.
  3. Under GST / Tax rate, pick your slab — 0%, 5%, 12%, 18% or 28%. Most restaurants use 5%. Every bill from then on calculates GST automatically.

Step 2 — Tables

  1. Open Tables.
  2. Create your floor areas (for example Ground Floor, AC Hall, Rooftop).
  3. Add each table with its name/number and seat count. These become the tappable table map your staff use for dine-in orders.

Step 3 — Menu

Your account comes pre-loaded with a starter menu so you can practise immediately. Building your menu is covered fully in the next section.

Step 4 — Staff logins

  1. Open Staff.
  2. Click Add staff, enter their name, a username, their role (Cashier / Kitchen / Waiter) and a password.
  3. Hand each person their own login. Done.

Step 5 — Printer (if you have one)

Connect your thermal printer and run a test from Settings → Printer & test print. Full details in the Printing section.

You're live! At this point you can bill your first customer. Everything after this (inventory, khata, QR ordering) can be switched on gradually as you get comfortable.

Add a category

  1. Open Menu.
  2. Click Add category and name it — for example Starters, Main Course, Beverages. You can also add sub-categories (e.g. Main Course → Veg / Non-Veg).
  3. Use Move up / Move down to arrange categories in the order your staff should see them.

Add an item

  1. Inside a category, click New Item.
  2. Enter the name and price. Prices include your configured GST handling automatically at billing time.
  3. Mark the diet type — the standard green dot (veg), red (non-veg) or yellow (egg) that customers expect on Indian menus.
  4. Optionally add a photo — items with photos sell better on the QR digital menu.
  5. Save. The item appears on the billing screen instantly.

Variants and add-ons

Real menus aren't flat, and PrestoPe handles that:

When a cashier taps an item that has variants or add-ons, PrestoPe automatically asks which one — no training needed.

Hiding items and going out of stock

6.Taking orders & billing — the daily flow

This is the screen your team will live in. Open it with the red + New Order button, top-left, from anywhere in the app.

Dine-in order, start to finish

  1. Tap + New Order and choose Dine In.
  2. Tap the table on the table map. Colours tell you each table's state at a glance: green = available, blue = occupied, yellow = billed, grey = cleaning.
  3. Tap items from the menu grid to add them to the cart. Search by name if it's faster. Quantities, variants and add-ons are all one tap.
  4. Click Save & Print KOT. The kitchen instantly receives the ticket (on their kitchen screen, and on the kitchen printer if you have one).
  5. Customer orders more later? Open the same table, add the new items, print KOT again — PrestoPe prints only the new items as an incremental ticket (KOT #3A, #3B…), never repeating the old ones.
  6. When they ask for the bill, print the Bill — a proper GST bill with your restaurant's details.
  7. Take payment and hit Settle — choose Cash, UPI, Card, or Put on khata for a regular customer who pays monthly. The table frees up automatically.

Takeaway / Pick Up / Delivery

Same flow, minus the table: choose Pick Up or Delivery when creating the order. For delivery orders you can record the customer's name, phone and rider details, and move the order through its pipeline — Incoming → Preparing → Food Ready → Dispatched → Delivered.

Cancelling / voiding

Made a mistake, or the customer changed their mind? An order can be voided — but note that voids are owner-controlled and every void is recorded with who did it and when. That's protection for your money, not bureaucracy.

Speed tip: in Settings → Billing grid layout switch between Graphic (big photo tiles — easy for new staff) and Compact (dense text grid — fastest for experienced cashiers). You can also hide item images for maximum speed.

7.The Order Dashboard — your mission control

The home screen shows every live order as a card, with colour strips showing each one's state.

Order cards move themselves as things happen — bill a table, and its card updates; the kitchen marks food ready, and the counter changes. Every screen in the restaurant stays in sync automatically.

8.Kitchen screen (KOT view)

  1. Put any spare screen in the kitchen (an old tablet or monitor works) and log it in with the KITCHEN account.
  2. Every saved KOT appears there the moment the cashier or waiter punches it — table number, items, quantities, variants and notes.
  3. When a dish is done, the kitchen taps Mark Ready — the counter staff instantly see Food is Ready on their dashboard.
Why it matters: no more shouting orders, lost paper slips, or "which table was this for?" The kitchen screen is the single truth of what to cook next.

9.Online orders (Zomato / Swiggy)

The Online screen collects your aggregator orders in one place with their OTPs, rider details and status pipeline, so the counter handles Zomato and Swiggy exactly like every other order — and stock is deducted for them too.

Use the store toggle (🏪 icon in the top bar) to switch your listing on aggregators on or off — for example, pausing new online orders when the kitchen is slammed.

10.QR self-ordering & digital menu

PrestoPe gives each table a printed QR code (a durable PVC set, issued by the PrestoPe team):

  1. The customer scans the QR at their table with their phone camera. No app to install.
  2. Your live digital menu opens — photos, prices, veg/non-veg marks, exactly in sync with your real menu (out-of-stock items disappear here too).
  3. The customer builds their order and submits it. It lands on your dashboard and kitchen screen like any other order, tagged to their table.
Note: QR self-ordering is enabled per restaurant by the PrestoPe team — ask support to switch it on for you. Replacement QR sets also come from support.

11.Khata — the credit book, digitised

Regular customers, staff meals, or the office next door that pays monthly — every restaurant runs some credit. PrestoPe replaces the paper khata:

  1. At settle time, choose Put on khata instead of cash/UPI, and pick (or create) the customer.
  2. Open Khata anytime to see every customer's outstanding balance and full history — each entry tied to an actual bill, so there are no disputes.
  3. When they pay, record the payment against their khata; the balance updates instantly.
Protection built in: only roles you allow can put orders on khata, and the ledger is tamper-evident — entries can't be quietly edited or deleted. Your credit book can't "develop mistakes".

12.Day close, reports & P&L

Daily reports

Expenses & P&L

Record daily expenses (gas, vegetables, salaries, rent) in Expenses, and the P&L screen puts income and spending side by side — your actual profit, not a guess.

For your accountant — Tally export

The Tally screen exports your sales in a Tally-ready file for any date range. Send it to your accountant; GST filing becomes their easy job, not your monthly headache.

13.Inventory & back office

When you're ready to control food costs, the back-office suite tracks your kitchen like a factory:

Note: back-office modules are enabled per account by the PrestoPe team — start with billing, and ask support to switch on inventory when you're ready. Don't try to do everything on day one.

14.Running multiple outlets

Growing to a second branch? PrestoPe was built for it:

Ask the PrestoPe team to link your outlets into a group when the time comes.

15.Your built-in AI Assistant

The chat bubble in the corner is the PrestoPe Assistant — a feature no other Indian POS has. Ask it questions in plain language, any time:

It knows your restaurant's data and the app itself, and answers instantly. It's read-only — it can explain and analyse, but it never changes your settings or data; you stay in control.

16.Printers & printing

Buying a printer? Any common thermal printer brand works. Ask support before buying if you're unsure about a specific model.

17.Managing staff & security

18.Common questions & troubleshooting

QuestionAnswer
The internet went down — did I lose my orders? No. Everything already saved is safe in the cloud. Reconnect and continue. (An offline desktop edition that bills without internet is also available — ask support.)
I billed the wrong item / table. Open the order and correct it before settling; if already settled, the owner can void and re-bill. Every correction is recorded.
A dish is finished for today. Use the out-of-stock pause (2h/4h/8h/24h/next-day). It returns automatically.
My staff member forgot their password. Owner opens Staff → that person → set a new password.
The printer stopped printing. Check the paper roll and the cable/WiFi first, then Settings → Printer & test print. If Windows shows the printer, PrestoPe will print. The AI Assistant can walk you through it too.
Prices show but GST looks wrong. Check your slab in Settings → GST / Tax rate. Changing it applies to new bills, never old ones.
Can I use it on my phone? Yes — every screen is mobile-optimised. Owners often check the dashboard and reports from home.
Is my data safe? Yes — encrypted connections (https), isolated per-restaurant data, tamper-evident money ledgers, and automatic nightly backups. Your data has passed an independent security audit.

19.Getting help

Our promise: you run the restaurant; PrestoPe runs the paperwork. If anything in this guide doesn't match what you see on screen, tell us — we'll fix the software or the guide, whichever is wrong.
